On Saturday 8th October, Neighbourhood Festival will be taking place in Manchester.
The event takes place over 11 different venues, and over 100 artists are going to be performing; including Circa Waves, Blossoms, and Twin Atlantic. However, I thought I would talk about some other acts you could go and watch throughout the day.
The Pigeon Detectives – If the name doesn’t ring a bell, that needs to change. Despite my belief that they deserve a later slot, at a larger venue; the Leeds indie rock quintet will be playing a half hour set at Sound Control (Main) from 1pm on Saturday. If you want to check them out before, some of their biggest hits include I Found Out and Take Her Back.
Liam Fray – The Courteeners frontman was probably a deciding factor for many, with expectation for him playing there being high before he even got announced. Fray will be making a special guest appearance at the event, playing a solo set at The Albert Hall from 6:30pm. Even if he’s the only act you see from these suggestions, it will be so worth it just to see him belt out Not Nineteen Forever and Small Bones.
The Academic – As one of Ireland’s hottest musical prospects at this very moment, The Academic are to play a few tour dates in the UK this month, including Neighbourhood. You’ll be able to find them at Underdog (XOLO) from 10:30pm – they’ll be sure to end your night on a high.
The Amazons – these are a band whom I’ve always rated highly. Their tracks Junk Food Forever and Ultraviolet gained the band a lot of following, and this year they played the likes of Truck Fest and Y Not. The band will be playing at Sound Control (Basement) from 4pm til 4:30pm, with other up and coming acts before and after such as Airways, High Tyde and Fronteers.
VANT – Having supported the likes of Catfish and the Bottlemen, Royal Blood, and soon You Me At Six, the indie rock quartet will be performing from 8pm at Sound Control (Main). If you’re unfamiliar with them, go and give their tracks Fly-by Alien and Parking Lot a listen.
There are numerous other acts performing at the festival across various venues throughout the course of the day. Others worth checking out include Louis Berry, Inheaven, Pale Waves and Clean Cut Kid.
