Yesterday saw a happy Monday all round for Looe music fans with the news that Madchester icons Happy Mondays will be the Sunday headliners at the Cornish music festival this October.

The Salford legends will be heading down the M6 on October 1st for the final day of Looe Festival; with many more acts to be announced.

The award winning group put their name firmly on the map after the release of their third studio album Pills ‘n’ Thrills and Bellyaches in 1990; which saw two singles (Kinky Afro and Step On) reach number 5 in the UK singles chart.

The group took to Twitter to announce their appearance at the Festival where I’m sure we’ll hear them belt out tunes such as Step On, Hallelujah and Kinky Afro. So get practicing your Bez moves!

The Friday headliners are fellow alt-rock band The Jesus and Mary Chain, with pop-icon Lulu taking to the stage on the Saturday.

This November Happy Mondays will set off on their 30th Anniversary, 24 Hour Party People Greatest Hits Tour when they’ll play a string of 25 shows; setting off in Bristol and including dates in Manchester, Cardiff, Dublin and Glasgow – see the full set of dates and book tickets here.

Looe Festival takes place from September 29th-October 1st; various tickets for the festival can be bought here.
